The Northwest's number one Black Arts Festival is in full
bloom today and tomorrow (June 15 & 16) at The Seattle Center Armory/Center
House. A number of art, music and other
exhibits make this the place to be this weekend. A FEW of the musical performances
include: Kalimba, Charles Mack, Johnaye Kendrick, Etienne Capko Gansango, Stacey Israel, Darrius Willrich, MichaelPowers, Thione Diop and many, many more!
One on the very special exhibit
presentations is that of Delbert Richardson’s mobile American History Museum. This is a must see, especially families,
about a part of our nation’s history that is often left out of the official academic
curriculum. Click on this to see a short video of
Delbert Richardson and his project.
The art exhibition this year highlights
a number of new artists coupled with a few veterans. The featured artist this year is Conswella
Uriola’s and her Women Empowerment series.
Also, check out the work of Delton Sun’s raw and emotional work as seen through
the eyes a young Black Man in today’s urban society. These are only two of the many great artists
who are exhibiting at this year’s festival.
Another side note for
attendees is to watch out (smile) for “Purple”, (aka Sharmaine Purple Tramble) who is a Top Northwest “paparazzi”. Her candid
shots of attendees can be seen on her Facebook page. Click on Take me to
Purple!
Debbie Cavitt performed at
the Friday evening artist reception and was her usual soulful and moving self as
she “Few (Fly Me) Us to the Moon” and back as she “Traveled On Route 66” while
she was “Feeling Good”. Debbie will next
be appearing at The
Langston Hughes Gala on June 29th and Tula’s Jazz Club on July 7th.
