Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center, The Black Film Festival and the City of Seattle
The City of Seattle's Langston Hughes African American Film Festival recently completed a very successful 8th season. This year marked the emergence of a very visible branding by the City of Seattle and is now enthusiastically accepted by the City as one of the jewels in the City's Arts community.
The festival is but one of the many outstanding programs this institution is presenting to the Seattle Arts Community and is rightfully so assuming it's position along with other Seattle Arts institutions as a major reason why Seattle is looked at as an unparalleled Arts City. This recognition did not come easy and it is still a challenge to maintain this reputation, especially in the face of resistance from those who will say that ART not based in the European Diaspora does not have the same level of "scholarship" as ART that is steeped in European culture.
Next year this festival will return to it's very beautiful and newly remodeled building on the corner of 17th and Yesler. This is the epicenter of not only Black Culture in Seattle, it is the spiritual center of the community from which this art emerges as well.
Looking forward to the day when we can say, "Welcome home".

He's Back
"I have been silent for to long". I don't know who said it, but so have I. I will be more vocal about what is going on in the world of "The Art of the African Diaspora" than I have for the last few months.
You can also e-mail me what is going on with you and I will help get the word out as well. E-mail ptoliver@talkingarts.com and we will do our best to help.
The MAJOR Event happeing this week is the Langston Hughes African American Film Festival at the Central Cinema, I will talk with you later about other stuff that will be happening in May and June (which will be a lot). So stay tuned, I shall be right back!
